Fifth Gear Compares Jaguar F-Pace and Alfa Romeo Stelvio on the Track

This format is as old as time itself, as this editor can distinctly remember videos from the early 2000's that looked just like this. But back in those days, Fifth Gear might have compared the latest saloons from Jaguar and Alfa.

The Stelvio and F-Pace are described as recent additions to the SUV war, even though they are a couple of years old. The point here is not to pick which one is the better model for people to buy, but to be entertained with lap times.

But two aren't evenly matched. While the Jaguar uses a 2-liter engine with 180 HP, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio uses a 2.2-liter with 210 HP. Both are diesel and have a similar drivetrain, though Jason says he likes the way the F-Pace handles more.

If you're going to take your diesel SUV on the track, be aware that around Anglesea, the 30 HP more powerful Alfa Romeo Stelvio is 3 seconds faster than a Jaguar F-Pace. There, we've got all the useful information out of the way!

You can get faster versions of both these cars. In the case of the Alfa, that's called a Stelvio Quadrifoglio, which comes with a 510 horsepower 2.9-liter V6 developed with Ferrari's help. Some say it's the closest an SUV can come to driving like a sports car. Jaguar also presented the F-Pace SVR with a 550 HP supercharged V8. However, nobody has driven one yet, so we can't tell if it's anything like an F-Type.

Off-roaders have also been hugely profitable for both these companies, so they are planning even bigger models which carry even fewer of the core Alfa and Jaguar values.
