Fiat Group chose to bring the Dodge Dart compact sedan to the Chinese market under its own name, not as part of its American brand. So the 2013 model received a cosmetic makeover that turned it into the Fiat Viaggio.
This new FIat model made its official debut at the China Auto 2012 in Beijing today, and will go on sale there as the Fei Xiang. It’s aimed at the mid-class segment in China’s automotive market.
The vibe we’re getting from Fiat is that this will indeed be coming to the European market. But don’t worry, because this car is actually based on a Fiat Group platform. However, the Italian automaker is in deep financial trouble right now, and probably can’t muster the cash to refit one of its factories until a solid business case is created for the Viaggio.
In China, the Viaggio will go on sale with a range of turbo engines including a 120-hp 1.4 liter T-Jet and a 150-hp T-Jet.
