Fiat to Parade 70 Freemonts at Italy’s 150th Anniversary

On Republic Day, the event that celebrates the unification of Italy 150 years ago, Fiat, in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry, will participate in the organization of the Armed Forces parade in Rome providing 70 Fiat Freemonts. The vehicles that have come into this world as a result of the partnership with Chrysler will be be used to transport the delegations of foreign Heads of State attending the event.

As you might expect from vehicles used for such an event, all Freemonts will be black with dark tinted windows. Fiat has also created a special logo for the event, combining its badge with the Italian Flag.

During a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in Rome, there was a symbolic handing over of the keys to the fleet, to the Foreign Minister Franco Frattini. At the parade, all vehicles will be driven by members of the Guardia di Finanza.

Fiat has managed to come by this interesting marketing proposition partly because it has a long history of collaboration with the Foreign Ministry, as well as active participation in major Italian and international events. The Italian carmaker was in fact was a sponsor of the G8 summit in L’Aquila in 2009, supplying 221 passenger cars, electric and off-road vehicles, CVs and buses. This array included Executive versions of the Lancia Delta used for government officials and diplomats. The Lancia Delta was also the Official Car of the 9th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates held in Paris in December 2008.

As for the Freemont, it has been recently introduced to the peninsula, available in 140 hp and 170 hp, front-wheel drive versions of the latest generation, variable geometry 2.0 MultiJet II diesel. The engine options will be expanded to include all-wheel drive versions of the 2.0 MultiJet II diesel (170 hp) and 3.6 gasoline V6 (276 hp).
