Although Fiat resurrected the 500 in 2007, the Cinquecento is a lackluster car by modern standards. The DS 3 and newer DS 3 Crossback are on a different level from the Italian supermini, but still, Fiat keeps on churning out special edition after special edition instead of redesigning the breed from the ground up.
This time around, the Turin-based automaker teamed up with a shoe company from France. 500 by Repetto is how the special edition is called, and customers of this Cinquecento are treated to a gift box that includes ballet shoes, fragrance, and a key ring. Indeed, dearest of gentlemen; this is a car for the ladies!
Limited to 500 examples of the breed, pricing of the 500 by Repetto starts at €18,490. For reference, Volkswagen asks that kind of greenback for the Polo Highline. As if that wasn’t insulting enough, the interloper from Tychy, Poland comes with 69 PS (68 horsepower) from a 1.2-liter engine and a five-speed manual transmission.
The TwinAir turbocharged two-cylinder is also available with 85 PS (84 horsepower), and if you ask nicely, Fiat is much obliged to sell you the Dualogic automatic transmission too. The range-topping configuration is €20,390, which is Golf territory if you were wondering.
Constructive criticism aside, Fiat didn’t even bother to produce high-quality stickers for this car. Applied at the base of the A-pillars, the stickers in question also appear to come off with ease. As if that wasn’t enough, the Repetto ballerina is present in the form of two additional stickers located next to the C-pillars.
On the upside, the special-edition model comes with Poltrona Frau leather upholstery, climate control, satellite navigation, and a panoramic sunroof from the get-go. The Bordeaux Opera paintwork carries on to the interior of the vehicle, where you’ll spot one more Repetto sticker right under the 500 badge on the passenger side of the dashboard.
Being a collaboration with a French company, the 500 by Repetto is the perfect occasion for Fiat to remind us how many 500 models were sold in France since the nameplate was re-introduced in 2007. To the point, the French bought more than 200,000 out of a worldwide total of 2 million.
