Fiat yesterday launched the Punto Evo, a model that was officially displayed at the Frankfurt Auto Show and will go on sale this month. Based on the Grande Punto, the car is the creation of Fiat's Centro Stile which customized the interiors, the dashboard, seats and instruments, to provide a more eye-cathing appearance.

Just as expected, the name "Evo" is said to highlight the evolution in car design, as the Italian carmaker said in a release.

There will be several engine choices available, each of them complying with Euro 5 regulations. Second-generation 1.3 MultiJet and 1.4 MultiAir are both introduced to reach outstanding fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions. A Start&Stop system will be offered as well as standard on all new Euro 5 petrol and diesel engines.

In terms of safety, the car comes with driver knee airbag as standard on all trims. ABS, EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) is also available across the range.

"There are other useful features such as the Hill Holder system, which helps the driver with hill starts by keeping the car stationary for a few seconds in order to prevent it from rolling backwards, and the adaptive cornering front fog lights that come on automatically on dipped beam according to the steering angle," Fiat explained in a release.

According to an earlier report on the Fiat Punto Evo, the Italian carmaker will offer an LPG version as well. The whole range will go on sale in the second half of October and is especially aimed at the European supermini segment.
