Fiat Plans to Sell 50,000 Units in the US

Italian manufacturer Fiat yesterday brought together a select group of Chrysler dealerships to give them a sorts of a heads up in light of the announced introduction of the 500 model on the American market. Now, more details on the Fiat plans have surfaced.

Out of the 400, as we already told you, Fiat will pick 165, dispersed in metropolitan areas chosen for their high concentration of small-car registrations. It is from these sales hubs the Italian manufacturer plans to sell no less than 50,000 Fiat 500 units in the next year.

Sales of the Fiat 500 will begin later this year, with the car to be initially sold in its regular body style. The Cabrio version will be added in 2011. For the US market, the model will be manufactured in Toluca, Mexico and will be offered with the 1.4l MultiAir engine manufactured in the US.

The dealers invited yesterday to the Fiat presentation in Detroit have until September 22 to submit their applications. According to Chrysler, most of them expressed their desire to sell Fiat.

“We have determined the areas of the country where Fiat dealers can succeed and grow,” Peter Grady, Chrysler's network development and fleet head was quoted as saying by just-auto.com.

“Now they must submit proposals detailing their plan for representing Fiat, from the showroom to sales, marketing and aftersales.”

“Our dealers will be able to interact with a group of individuals that are not part of their current customer base,”
said yesterday the Italian carmaker's head of US operations, Laura Soave.
