"Fiat, Just a Clever Hyena," Autoevolution Poll Finds Out

The whole Chrysler bankruptcy issue and the ongoing Fiat saga prompted us last week to find out your opinion on the matter.

Our poll question, "Has Fiat become Chrysler's white knight or is it just a very clever hyena?”, was met with probably the highest uncertainty of all of our previous polls. However, the majority of the respondents, 39 percent to be more precise, agreed that “Chrysler just sold its soul to the devil”.

An alarmingly high percentage, 34%, chose the least appealing option of our poll “I don't know and I don't really care”. Not very encouraging for Chrysler or for any other company in its shoes.

Only 26% of our poll respondents thought that “This is a match made in heaven” and even though it's not much lower than the most popular option, it should be an indication that people are not exactly thrilled with the Italian move.

We reported in mid-May that US Federal Trade Commission approved the deal between the two manufacturers. The FTC said then that the strategic alliance poses absolutely no risk to competition in the US.

The whole Fiat and Chrysler love affair was acknowledged in January when they officially announced that they had agreed to form a strategic alliance in the United States. This would give Fiat an up to 35 percent stake in the American automaker. Furthermore, Chrysler would be able to benefit from Fiat's fuel efficient models and small car platform that would help it revamp the production lineup and get through the recession.

If you are a poll fan and want to express your opinion in any possible matter, be sure to check out our homepage (left side, after a bit of scrolling down) for the latest debate. This week we take you back to Formula 1 and its phenomenal Jenson Button and the Brawn team.
