Fiat Group: Excellent UK Sales in 2009

Fiat Group UK has recorded a sales figure of 71,000 units for 2009, a big commercial success for the company. For the same period, the Fiat brand has achieved a market share of 3.02 %, the best figure since 2002.

The Fiat brand alone is responsible for the sale of 60,337 cars (a five-year record), with the ultimate sales champion, Fiat 500, posting a sales figure of 24,000 units.

These numbers are significantly higher than those recorded in 2008: 55,325 units, out of which 15,000 were Fiat 500 subcompacts.

The situation is similar for the Alfa Romeo brand.  9,067 units were sold in 2009, a healthy increase compared to the 5,950 figure posted in the previous year. The Mito model was the brand’s sales leader, with over 6,000 units sold in 2009. Alfa also achieved its best UK market share since 2003 - 0.45%.

The last and most exotic brand from the entire portfolio is Abarth. The sport division of the group is viewed as a separate brand since its market relaunch in 2007 and has posted a 2009 sales figure of 1,381 units.

The Fiat Group’s overall image has improved in 2009, resulting in a serious increase of the Italian cars’ residual values on the UK second hand market.

“This is the result of a clear strategy coming to fruition, an unmistakable recovery of the brands and their product initiatives, and the support of a more streamlined dealer network which is showing improvements to its profitability,” Andrew Humberstone, managing director for FGA UK and Ireland, said.
