Fiat Cuts 124 Spider Ad Starring Charlie Sheen Before Official Reveal

It’s not exactly clear whether it was Romanian beauty Catrinel Menghia or Charlie Sheen who made Fiat’s Abarth advertorials that successful, but they sure helped with the launch of the beefed-up version of the 500 in the US. However, things have changed in the past few years, with the famous bad-boy impersonator facing some serious health problems these days. It appears that the Italians have now decided to can a fresh advertorial for the 124 Spider.

What commercial, you may ask and you’d be right to do so. It's a somewhat secret gig, considering there wasn't anything official about it. The incomplete-video featuring Sheen driving wildly in the new roadster was played for several dozen reporters during a sneak preview of the new Fiat 124 Spider at parent company Fiat Chrysler’s headquarters in Auburn, Hills, Michigan on November 3, as reported by the Detroit Bureau.

It was supposed to help with the launch of the company’s praised Roadster, but it ended up in the company’s "drawer" along with other similar projects, which, according to FIAT spokeswoman Diane Martin, is something that happens sometimes. Sure, the Italian carmaker denies that the creative director’s decision to can Charlie Sheen’s new commercial is in any way related to the actor’s health condition.

However, it’s a matter of common sense: the famous-for-being-a-bad-boy actor has officially admitted he is HIV positive. Moreover, it appears he has been suffering from this condition for quite a while now, which regularly is one of those things people in the in ad industry want to know.

In the light of recent events, one would wonder whether or not Fiat has also put down the older commercials for the Fiat 500 Abarth. Even though these ads still exist online, it appears they’re rather difficult to find on the company’s official account.

As to the unreleased Fiat 123 Spider commercial with Charlie Sheen, according to the company’s representatives, they may eventually change their mind and broadcast it anyway. If not, perhaps Dan Bilzerian will take Sheen’s role.
