According to FCA, the recall will address an insufficient crimp in a wire harness, which was updated on September 23, 2014. After investigating warranty data, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles discovered a potential problem in the wiring harnesses of approximately 410,000 vehicles sold worldwide.

In these cars, the possible defect may lead to a solenoid fault code, raising the possibility of stalling the engine. Fortunately, FCA has no reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue.

The automaker also believes that this matter is an exceedingly rare occurrence, and that most of the cars it will recall would have probably not experienced the problem described above in their lifetimes.

Just to be safe, FCA has decided to conduct the safety campaign, so that customers rest assured that their vehicles are fault-free. If one of the vehicles targeted by the recall does experience the fault, owners can temporarily fix the problem by restarting the engine.

The fix proposed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles involves a software update and replacing wire harnesses. Only vehicles that were built before September 23, 2014, are affected by the issue. After the said date, FCA had changed its manufacturing process.

FCA had not disclosed if it knew about the problem when it improved the production process, but they say this potential issue was discovered after investigating warranty claims, so some customers did have an issue that involved stalling the engine.

The affected models include the Jeep Renegade, 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee, Ram ProMaster City, and the 2015 Chrysler 200. Out of the 410,000 units targeted by this recall, 323,361 were sold in the United States of America.

Another 35,511 examples were sold in Canada, 7,067 vehicles were sold in Mexico, while the rest of the 43,927 were sold in other regions. If you own one of the affected models, you may contact Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' customer care center to inquire about scheduling the repair.
