Now, Takata's faulty airbags might have triggered the safety scandal of the century and a tsunami of recalls, but things can go wrong in other backyards as well.
Let's take, for example, FCA's turf. The company is recalling two million Ram trucks in two stages, over two separate defects.

The first recall will affect model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks manufactured June 20, 2012, to January 26, 2015. The cause?

In the affected vehicles, the side impact sensor calibrations may be overly sensitive, and as a result, the side air bag inflatable curtains and seat airbags may unexpectedly deploy and the seat belt pre-tensioners may activate.

Incidents occurred when vehicle doors were slammed with excessive force, and the company is aware of two potentially related injuries, both described as minor, but no accidents.

The second issue is related to a steering wheel wiring harness that may rub against the driver airbag module retainer spring. According to FCA, 2012-2014 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks manufactured January 18, 2011, to October 7, 2014 could be affected.

In some cases, this malfunction may result in an electrical short that could cause driver's frontal air bag to deploy unexpectedly, which means there's the risk of a crash and serious injury.

As part of a standard procedure when it comes to recalls, Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, repair as necessary, and secure the steering wheel wiring harness.

Also, protective caps will be added to the air bag retainer spring ends. These repairs will be done, as usual, free of charge.
