Fiat Abarth Grande Punto SS Goes to Frankfurt

Italian carmaker Fiat has just announced that an upgraded version of its Abarth Grande Punto SuperSport (SS), which already went on sale starting from the past weekend, is heading for the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) which will be open for the public between September 17-27. The model was fitted with a 180 horsepower 1.4-liter, 16v engine that develops 270 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. The car can go from a standstill to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and keeps on accelerating until it reaches a top speed rated at 215 km/h. Additionally, the SS got a stiffened suspension with new springs which also let the car sit 20 mm lower, 18-inch wheels shoed with 215/40 R18 tires, while the brake system received perforated discs all around and performance pads at the front. Inside, the Abarth Grande Punto "SuperSport" boasts "Abarth Corsa by Sabelt" leather seats and an Abarth Blue&Me MAP satellite navigation unit with a telemetric function developed in conjunction with Magneti Marelli. In addition to the characteristic Abarth colours, the Grande Punto "SuperSport" comes in Airfield Grey and a motorsports inspired livery. In addition to the Abarth Grande Punto SS, Fiat will also be showcasing the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari at the upcoming event. The model is, in fact, a limited edition Fiat 500, powered by the same 180 hp 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. autoevolution will be attending the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of these vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions.
