We really don't know what Fiat is doing right now. In 2007, they launched the 500 we know and love and said it was based on the Panda platform. Then about a year ago, they launched a new Panda and said it was based on the 500. More recently, insider sources suggested their whole model range would center around the Panda and the 500.
They're not lying either, as about a week ago, we discovered a photo of a seven-seater monocab/MPV called the 500XL. It seemed to be sitting on a production line, which means there's really no turning back now.
One murky, low-res photo wasn't enough for us, which is why we're using this rendering from Hungarian designer X-Tomi to give you a much better view. Far from being trivial, this rendering also shows what the US model 500XL could look like. A visible exhaust tip, body colored plastic protectors and a lip at the back set it apart from the car car that will produced in Serbia.
Once you go beyond the name, the 500XL is an excellent replacement for the Multipla, widely considered one of the ugliest Fiats ever made.
