Fiat 500C Abarth in the Works

Just as expected, Abarth continues to make Fiat's models hotter than they currently are with a new model, this time the newly-released 500 convertible. According to a report by autocar.co.uk, the car is currently in the works, but an official launch date is yet to be unveiled.

Obviously, details are still in the very early stage but what we do know is that the future 500C Abarth will feature the same roll-back canvas roof as the stock model.

Since we're talking about Abarth models, the engines will provide much more power than the standard units, and according to the aforementioned source, a 1.4 T-Jet with 133bhp (15bhp more than a Mini Cooper) and an Esseesse model with 157bhp are very likely to join the range.

As for pricing, the 500C Abarth will be probably priced over 16,000 pounds or 18,500 euros.

Abarth also rolled out a customized version of the base Fiat 500 model, with the two companies modifying many parts of the car, including the powertrain and multiple design parts such as the front bumper and grille, the wheels and the exterior mirrors.

In terms of performance, the 500 Abarth is powered by a 1.4 16V turbocharged petrol engine capable of developing a maximum power of 135 bhp at 5,000 rpm combined with a torque of 206 Nm at 3,000 rpm. Safety has also been enhanced with ESP, now available as standard, plus TTC (Torque Transfer Control) and seven airbags, all of them installed as standard.

The 500 Abarth sprints from naught to sixty in 7.9 seconds and achieves a maximum speed of 127 mph (204 km/h).
