Fiat 500 TwinAir Provides Congestion Charge-Free Transportation

The Major of London recently announced the changing of the rules for London’s congestion charge. The new law allows all vehicles that meet Euro 5 emission standards and emit less than 100 grams of CO2 per km to enter the zone free of charge.

The British divisions of automotive producers reacted promptly, promoting their low emissions models that allow customers to benefit from the charge exemption. Some of the brands that advertised their money-saving eco models are Citroen (company has three 99 g/km CO2 in its current line-up ),Toyota (the iQ model) and Volvo (currently offering 3 such vehicles).

Now, Fiat is joining this group, announcing that the TwinAir version of the 500 model qualifies for the tax exemption.

The vehicle, which has been introduced to the UK market this week, offers both private and fleet customers the possibility to cut transport costs. The 500 TwinAir uses a 900cc two-cylinder turbocharged powerplant that delivers 85 hp, returning a fuel efficiency of 4.1 liters per 100 km (57.4 US mpg or 68.9 UK mpg).

We’ll remind you that the new 100 percent discount scheme for greener vehicle becomes effective on January 4 next year.

“This is a good decision by TfL [Transport for London], which recognises the dramatic steps some manufacturers have made in reducing the emissions their cars produce,” said Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd. “Motorists and fleets who take the decision to drive environmentally-friendly cars should be rewarded, and this ruling goes some way towards achieving that.”
