Fiat 500 Promotion by Jennifer Lopez at 2011 AMAs Called "Shameless"

Just because there’s a saying that goes “there’s no such thing as bad press” doesn’t mean it’s right, especially if it has something to do with the automotive industry and not entertainment. Fiat is struggling right now to get a foothold in the US market with the 500, as it’s only sold less than a third of the annual target.

When I watched the 2011 American Music Awards, I also noticed that the promotion of the Cinquecento was a bit in your face, but only thought to myself that her contract with Fiat must be worth at least a million. Yet the entertainment industry has taken it a lot more seriously, with some artist going on Twitter to criticize Lopez’s product placement, according to Wall Street Journal.

“I know I just didn’t see that damb Fiat. I KNOW I didn’t see that friggin’ FIAT” said Roots drummer Questlove, while award presenter John Legend: “That had to be the most shameless thing I’ve ever seen in a performance. I was genuinely shocked.”
