Fiat 500 Numero Uno Sold for $85,000

The launch of the Fiat brand in North America is just around the corner and, whereas up until now the majority of the efforts to promote the brand have been concentrated on the US, it's now Canada's turn to get a piece of the auction.

Chrysler, the local partner of Fiat, announced this week that it has donated the first 500 model to reach Canadian soil to charity. Auctioned at the 17th annual Venetian Ball in Toronto, the 500 raised $85,000 for the Villa Charities.

“The enthusiastic bidding for this iconic vehicle, and the fact that it sold for $85,000, underscore the excitement and interest the Fiat 500 has generated since Fiat's return to Canada was first announced," said Ed Broadbear, Chrysler Canada vice president of marketing.

Dubbed Numero Uno, the 500 is the first of the 500 mini cars Fiat has souped up to get the North American market ready for its comeback.

The series of cars, called Prima Edizione, features several unique elements, like the Prima Edizione badge and a sequential VIN and badge according to production order. All special edition models will be fitted with a manual transmission, paired to the 1.4l MultiAir four-cylinder engine.

“Chrysler Canada and Fiat are proud to donate Canada's very first Fiat 500 to support Villa Charities,"
added Reid Bigland, Chrysler Canada CEO. “Thanks to the alliance between our two companies, the feeling of kinship with the vibrant Italian-Canadian community has strengthened and we are pleased to be a part of this wonderful event."
