Fiat 500 Gets Ford Ka Suspension Setup

It looks like Fiat has decided to pay attention to the reviews showing that although the 500 and the Ford Ka share the same platform, they offer a totally different driving experience, with the Ka being the more involving vehicle.

The Italian automaker will use the Ford Ka suspension settings for its supermini, in order to offer it a more agile handling, as autocar reports. In other words, the Fiat 500 will have a 30 percent stiffer rear anti-roll bar, which will allow it to offer an improved driving experience.

The Ford suspension setup had already been present on the Fiat 500, but the configuration had only been used for the Abarth versions of the car. Over 500,000 units of the Fiat 500 have been sold, since the vehicle was introduced in 2007. The vehicle is now on sale and in demand in a total of 83 countries, with its largest markets being Italy, France and the UK.

The non-Abarth Fiat 500 offers an engine line-up comprising of two petrol powerplants and two diesel units. The entry-level engine is a 1.2 liter developing 69 hp, followed by a 1.4 liter offering 100 hp. The diesel engine range includes a 75 hp 1.3 liter Multijet and a 95 hp 1.3 liter Multijet II. All the engines meet the Euro V emission standards and can be mated to either manual or sequential robotized transmissions.

The hot Fiat 500, which is marketed under the Abarth sub-brand, uses a turbocharged 1.4 liter engine that develops 135 hp and 217 Nm of torque. The vehicle also has a Essesse edition, which uses a modified version of the turbocharged 1.4 liter powerplant to deliver 160 hp.
