Fiat 124 Spider US Configurator Launched, Also Available in Italy

It's been months since we last had a reason to visit the official Fiat website. But we couldn't miss out on the first RWD car they've offered in many years, now could we? Last week, pricing for the 124 Spider was announced and you can now build your own as well.

As we've already said, the basic model starts at $24,995 or $25,990 once you include the destination charge. That gets you the 1.4-liter turbo engine with 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The standard gearbox is a 6-speed manual, which can be upgraded for $1,350 to a 6-speed automatic built by AISIN in Japan.

There are six exterior colors to choose from, including pearl white, gray, metallic blue, black and passionate red. All the options are bundled up into the Technology Collection package costing $1,295, which adds keyless entry with push-button start, 7-inch display and rearview camera.

If you don't like the standard 16-inch wheels and cloth seats, you must upgrade to the $28,490 Spider Lusso, bringing 17-inch alloys and leather trim in either black of "Saddle."

If you've still got money, Fiat offers the Safety and Comfort Collection package with an integrated universal garage door opener, alarm, rear parking sensors, auto-dimming side and rearview mirrors and cross-traffic alert. Honestly, we think all those are pointless on an event car and you might as well spend it on the flagship Elaborazione Abarth model.

It doesn't have any more power, but the body kit is badass. It also comes with sportier gloss black wheels, a mechanical limited-slip differential, and Bilstein shocks. For the keen driver, those are the must-have features, not parking sensors.

In other news, Fiat has begun selling the 124 Spider in Italy as well. Their model is a little shabby, packing just 140 horsepower from the same turbo engine. The Lusso model is also available, but the Abarth is a few weeks away. Prices start at €27,500, making this one of the most expensive Fiats right now.
