FIA WTCC's press office recently announced the 2009 calendar for the World Touring Car Championship, which comes with some noteworthy changes. While comprising the same number of races, twelve, debuting at Curitiba, in Brazil, and ending in Macau, as in 2008, the future calendar will include the brand new street circuit around Marrakesh, in Morocco, which is yet to be homolegated by FIA. The new circuit replaced Imola in the 2009 championship schedule, but Italian fans should not worry as Monza is still there. Another important change in the program concerns the Portuguese event, which has been moved from Estoril to Porto, also subject to FIA homologation. Although the Oschersleben, Germany, circuit is on the list, FIA WTCC is still facing uncertainty as date of the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix has been moved to August 30, and is now in clash with the WTCC event. Fortunately, KSO and the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben are working together to move the meeting to September 6th. Here's the 2009 calendar for the FIA WTCC event:
