FIA to Introduce Customer Cars in 2010

The latest FOTA meeting in London, on Wednesday, seems to have resulted in some major steps towards a compromise between the F1 teams and FIA's Max Mosley. Apart from kicking out Williams F1 for their breaking of the FOTA agreement earlier this week, it has emerged that the F1 teams' representatives will finally consider Mosley's proposal of a “glide-path for his budget cap, with 2010 a transition year,” as reported by the GMM news agency.

It seems the FIA president presented the F1 teams with that solution during last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix, but the teams did not have the possibility to discuss it until yesterday morning. Also, according to the aforementioned source, McLaren Mercedes seems to have played a major role in reaching a compromise between the two parties, as the Woking based team had urged both parts to leave apart some of their requests in order to get through the crisis.

Apparently, what Mosley suggested – and it now seems the F1 teams will agree – is a 100 million euros budged cap for 2010, which will basically represent a transitional year for the championship. We'll remind you that FIA's first offer was a 45 million euros cap, less than half of what they're willing to agree upon now.

Also, in an effort to keep the new F1 entries still interested in joining the series in 2010, it seems both the FIA and the FOTA have agreed to secure them with customer cars at least throughout the next year. The measure is likely to be scrapped from the FIA rule book in 2011, once a smaller budget cap is believed to be introduced for all Formula One teams.

In addition to those changes, it seems the two bodies have agreed on the policing of their F1 expenditures. As several F1 outfits have insisted they don't want outside auditors going through their financial books, they've all agreed to “forensic accountants Deloitte to supervise,” the aforementioned source added.
