FIA Hands Trulli $10,000 Fine for Having a Go at Sutil

Jarno Trulli was fined $10,000 by the FIA stewards following his behavior in the first lap of the Brazilian Grand Prix. The Italian driver lost control of his car while trying to overtake Force India's Adrian Sutil and crashed out of the race, causing the German to also call it a day at the Interlagos circuit.

However, when instructed by the race marshals to leave the section in which the accident took place – and where Fernando Alonso's car was also out after a contact with Sutil's VJM 02 – Trulli ignored the signals and confronted the Force India driver about the incident. The Italian believed it was Sutil's fault for the crash and the pair almost came to blows in a matter of seconds.

After rejoining the pits, Sutil explained to the media that the crash wasn't his fault and that he tried to explain to Trulli what really happened. Later on, the FIA stewards agreed with him, categorizing the accident as a “racing incident”. As for Trulli, the ruling body decided that his reaction was inadequate and handed him the aforementioned fine.

“I was following him through the corner but then suddenly I got hit in the rear and lost control of the car. Trulli was there on the outside trying to go round. It was a really stupid maneuver as there was no space and I couldn't see him at all. At that point it wasn't worth it and it ended my race far too early on as I went over into the gravel. Jarno was furious and said it was my mistake but I just told him what had happened to me. But it's over and now he's just got to deal with it,” explained Sutil.

On the first lap (Adrian) Sutil was very slow through turn four because he was fighting with (Kimi) Raikkonen. He was on the inside so I took the outside line but he kept pushing me wider and wider. In the end I was on the grass and had no control of the car so I crashed into the wall at high speed. I think there was enough space for both of us to get around the corner,” said Trulli, who issued no apology for his post-crash behavior.
