Built for only five years, the successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO was the last sportscar Enzo Ferrari would personally approve. The fastest, most powerful and, of course, most expensive car of the time that the Italians sold to the public, it remains one of their prime models. Owning the real deal is rather a thing of fantasy, but a 1:8 scale model might just do the job.
Hard to say whether you’ll get one of the 1,311 units ever produced for less than $1 million, but maybe you’d get really lucky with a barn find of some sort. Still, any buyer that even thinks of getting a F40 is obviously way more loaded than most of us we’d ever get to be and that is a fact.

But car makers are that merciful they will always think of us poor, regular people too. This is why every now and then they collaborate with scale model makers and release these limited edition marvels. Sure, you’ll still need to be quite loaded to get one since we’re talking about little toys priced at thousands of dollars. But let's face it, it’s a lot better than the actual thing.

Particular things that resemble the 1:8 model with the actual car can be observed, things such as the lack of door handles or the huge spoiler in the back with the F40 engraved on the side. Other specific marks include the partial undertray which was used to smooth airflow beneath the radiator, front section, and the cabin, and a second one with diffusers behind the motor.

The actual car was the first road legal production car to break the 200mph (320 km/h) barrier and it’s no wonder the Top Gear trio referred to it as the “greatest supercar the world had ever seen”.

As previously mentioned, the scale models F40 come in a limited edition of 199 pieces. Made by Amalgam Model Fine Cars Ltd for Ferrari, one unit will cost you EUR 6,275 ($7,081) so you’d better start saving.
