OK, we plead guilty to the accusation of having written a somewhat misleading title above. The Ferrari F12berlinetta is missing from the cringe-worthy footage below. Before you start throwing rotten tomatoes at us, you should know that, while the F12 is missing, the video does include other slabs of ultra-expensive metal, possibly with Bentley and Maserati badges attached to them.
While placing such rides on floating docs might seem like a risky idea, this was necessary in order for the vehicles to fall in line with the events that took place at last month’s Ford Lauderdale International Boat Show.
However, the supercars and Grand Tourers had to be taken off their floating displays at the end of the event. Nevertheless, the organizers arranged things in such a way that only a few hours were dedicated to bringing the cars back on land.
As a result, the team that handled the operation had to learn a thing or two from Gone in Sixty Seconds, handling the high-dollar vehicles extremely fast. Anybody who’s seen a crane operator at work in real life knows the guy here deserves at least an “employee of the year” award to be packed into his Christmas gifts.
Given the considerable weight difference between the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Bentley Continental GT, it’s a pleasure to see such a wide palette of exotics getting some air time.
The part of the crane-lifting operation that made our knuckles turn white, despite having a computer mouse, not a steering wheel at our disposal, has to do with the cars not being strapped to their platforms - it seems the tires’ grip was deemed sufficient for the operation.
We’re glad everything went according to plan and none of the superb pieces of machinery was dropped. After all, such accidents sometimes happen to the best of us.
