Ferrari Use Illegal Exhaust System?

Ferrari might have to return their car back into the garage less than a week after its official launch on January 12th. And it's not because it has failed a crash test or anything – like it happened with the Renault R29 earlier this month – but because the new Ferrari F60's exhaust system seems to be a bit “illegal”.

While no official announcement was made on the matter, the illegal-exhaust-system part was unveiled by German motor sport publication Auto Motor und Sport. According to the aforementioned source, while analyzing the technical details of the new F60 and focusing on its new aerodynamics, the journalists have found that exhaust outlets were not compliant with the new FIA regulations.

The German magazine was allegedly informed by some of the F1 teams that the F60 car featured exposed exhaust outlets, while all other cars have used an interior-built design, as stated by the FIA rules.

Shortly after revealing their 2009 challenger, Ferrari have taken their car to the circuit through Brazilian Felipe Massa. In fact, this might explain Ferrari's immediate pulling out of the Algarve group test next week in order to focus on testing their new car – and possibly revising its exhaust system – at their home circuit at Mugello.

The Italian team is yet to comment on the matter. As far as changing the location of next week's testing goes, the Scuderia argued that poor weather forecast forced them to come to Mugello.
