Ferrari to Begin 458 Italia Recall [Rumor]

The fires which have wreaked havoc among the brand new 458 Italia models is likely to prompt a recall made by the Italian manufacturer, shortly after news of Ferrari launching an investigation into the incidents surfaced.

The news is not official yet, as it was made public by a Ferrari owner, who allegedly received something similar to a recall notice from the carmaker. The customer in question tipped off Jalopnik, who in turn let the world know.

According to the source, Ferrari is considering a design flaw and it's not placing the blame on its owners. Apparently, the cause is the fact that the gas overflow tube and gas vapor system are too close to the engine. We will come back on this subject as soon as more info is available.

Last week, Ferrari finally acknowledged there is a problem with their F430 replacement. The carmaker made the decision to investigate the fires, according to a company UK spokesman.

“Six have been incidents where it potentially could be the driver or other factors. I am not in a position to comment on the vehicle fires and all we can say is we are taking it obviously very seriously," he said.

The 458 Italia has been shown for the first time last year at the Frankfurt Auto Show. It is powered by a 4.5l V8 direct injection engine fitted with the traditional flat-plane crankshaft. It has a breathtaking output of 570 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 540 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm.

The unit is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and together boasts the car from naught to sixty faster than you can say Ferrari 458 Italia: 3.4 seconds. It keeps on going until it reaches 325 km/h (200 mph).
