Ferrari Testarossa Shines with Aftermarket Transparent Engine Cover

The Ferrari Testarossa was a product of the funky 80s and while the Prancing Horse did gift it with quite some flashy design element, such as the signature side air intakes, they did miss one spot.

We’re referring about the engine cover here. Whether we’re talking about the early 512 TR or the late F512 M, the hatch of the car had a massive power dome in its middle, but this kept the V12 underneath hidden. With almost 10,000 units produced, there were enough owners who wanted to let the sun shine over that engine.

One solution came from the US (where else), where an aftermarket developer called Norwood Performance came up with a transparent engine cover for the Testarossa. The piece was developer over five years ago and it was comprised of a tempered glass with a carbon fiber bezel, also incorporating a third brake light. The bezel features a dry carbon finish, not the glossy kind, in a bid to keep things from passing the overkill border.

The engine lid had a price of $1,800 and could be installed in about 30 minutes with simple tools. Moreover, the thing could be painted to match the hue of the car, a choice many went for.

Certain forum owners and enthusiasts have installed Norwood Performance’s transparent engine lid and the general response was positive. Since the fabrication process was bespoke, there were issues with certain units, but it appears the company handled these with care.

Alas, only bout 500 units were made and, even though the company still runs quite a lot of Ferrari-linked activities, such as racing events, they don’t seem to be planning another lot. This means that the chances of gifting your Testarossa with such a goodie are pretty close to zero.

The pic above shows a Testarossa that has been recently spotted wearing one of these transparent engine lids, so we could say they passed the test of time.
