Ferrari Reiterate Commitment for F1 Programme

After BMW yesterday confirmed their Formula One quit at the end of 2009, the rest of the car manufacturers currently part of the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) have lined up to reiterate their commitment to the sport.

Toyota were the first company linked with an F1 quit ever since the beginning of the year, and they were also the first ones to confirm their stay. After the Japanese car maker insisted they will remain in the series for at least the upcoming 3 years – as stated in the new Concorde Agreement signed by all F1 manufacturers last weekend – Ferrari also stepped in to assure its fans they will not leave F1.

Over the last 60 years of the continuous participation of Ferrari in the Formula 1 World Championship we've seen many teams and some important constructors come and go,” said a spokesman for the Scuderia yesterday afternoon.

While revealing their sadness for BMW's decision, the Maranello based company insisted it doesn't have any plans to quit the sport in which they have competed for the last 60 years.

This is a characteristic of this sport, although we are sad about BMW's decision. Ferrari will continue to engage itself wholeheartedly for a new era in Formula 1, composed of stable rules and extreme technological research accompanied by paying close attention to the environment and a growing spectacle as well as greater participation of the fans and of all our sport's components,” added the spokesman.

Mercedes also joined the two manufacturers in committing to the sport for the future, which only leaves Renault in doubt. The French manufacturer refused to comment on the matter, which might suggest some dark clouds at Enstone in the near future.

Renault have constantly been linked with leaving F1 this year, as company's CEO Carlos Ghosn himself threatening the FIA to quit during the political drama earlier this year.
