Ferrari Reconsider F1 Commitment Beyond 2012

Although signing the Concorde Agreement that binds their team to Formula One until 2012, Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo hinted that the Italians may reconsider their position in the Great Circle beyond that date. Once again, the Ferrari boss warned the FIA to take better care of the sport, unless they want to see its most appreciated manufacturer leave the series at the end of 2012.

We have a contract that finishes in 2012, so we have time to consider what to do next,” said Montezemolo in an interview with Sky Italia's news channel TG24, while also suggesting that the Great Circle “needs to renew, to revive the interest and to once again establish credibility with rules that do not change every day.

Some of the suggestions issued by Di Montezemolo include the stability of the rules, as he revealed he does not like how the sport looks like today. Formula One has underwent a major “facelift” last winter, when the rules of aerodynamics, KERS, slick tires and testing were changed completely.

As a result, the order in F1 changed at 180 degrees, with Brawn GP and Red Bull Racing easily passing big guns Ferrari and McLaren in the manufacturers' standings. In addition, a new set of rules have been confirmed for 2010, including drastic changes such as refueling ban – which will trigger a new design for the fuel tank – and tire warmers ban.

In addition, the Ferrari official urged the media and the Formula One organizers to have some constant work meetings in order to find new solutions to “improve the extraordinary sport of Formula One”.
