Those of you who are still worried about the new wave of turbocharged Ferraris not staying true to the Prancing Horse spirit should stop fretting. First of all, Maranello has blessed us with some amazing forced induction creations in the past. Secondly, the new-age turbos behave like perfect Ferraris - the California T, for example, is currently the subject of a recall related to a fire risk.
On a more serious note, we'll mention Ferrari is recalling the 2016 California T over a fuel line issue. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the campaign targets California T models manufactured between September 8, 2015 and November 11, 2015. The number of North American units affected raises to 185 cars.
The vehicles in question come with a low pressure fuel line that might not connect properly to the fuel pump feed pipe. The poor connection can lead to a fuel leak in the engine bay, hence the fire hazard.
In the report submitted by Ferrari to the NHTSA, the company shows the problem has to do with a manufacturing defect, thus blaming one of its suppliers for it. This reminds us of the Takata airbag issue that caused the carmaker to announced a recall back in the summer, with 800 vehicles being affected by that campaign.
Here's what you can do if you own a Cali T and haven't received The Notice yet
The automaker's North American arm has already notified owners, while also issuing a stop sale notice to dealers. The latter will replace the low pressure fuel line of the affected vehicles, obviously free of charge.
If you've thrown a worried look at your garage after reading this, you should know the recall has already kicked off (the action started on December 14, to be more precise). You can contact your Ferrari dealership or call the automaker's customer service at 1-201-816-2600.
Update: the Ferrari 488 GTB is affected by the same problem.
