Ferrari Offers Alonso a Blue T-Shirt

This weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix will be the first for Fernando Alonso as a Ferrari driver, the Spaniard having replaced this season the WRC departed Kimi Raikkonen. And even with Fernando Alonso-mania in full swing, the grandstands at Circuit de Catalunya this weekend will remain a sea of blue.

At the height of the Spaniard's title-winning run last decade, his fans wore the light blue of his home region Asturias, which was a perfect match for the Mild Seven-blue colored area of the Renault car. And even if he has switched to Ferrari, the grandstands are set to remain blue in 2010, due to the newly-launched Ferrari T-shirt, one that is is not the traditional scarlet red, but blue.

"I'm sure they will come with their blue flags and blue colours, plus the new Ferrari T-shirt that is blue," 28-year-old Alonso said in Barcelona. The Ferrari blue T-shirt is especially made for Alonso. On one sleeve of the new blue T-shirt sits the yellow cross of Asturias, combined with the Prancing Horse and Alonso signature on the front.

Last month, Fernando Alonso insured his thumbs for 10 million euros, a gift from Ferrari’s major backer, Grupo Santander. The banking and insurance giant also offered Alonso a life insurance on the occasion.

Santander has followed Alonso at McLaren Mercedes when the Spaniard left Renault for the Woking based team in 2007, after which it became an official backer of Ferrari when the 2-time world champion signed a 3-year deal with the Scuderia.
