Ferrari Not Panicking - Massa

Like teammate Fernando Alonso, Brazilian driver Felipe Massa is not panicking over the poor start experienced by Ferrari in the 2011 Formula 1 campaign.

Although expected to fight Red Bull for F1 supremacy this year, the Scuderia drivers are finding themselves struggling for qualifying positions on Saturday and hoping for a good race pace the next day. However, Massa believes the behavior of the Ferrari cars in Malaysia has given the team at Maranello reasons to hope for improvement.

With the sole exception of Red Bull champion Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari's lap times in the race were as competitive as anyone's, emphasizing the idea that the main area that needs to be worked on at Maranello is that of the qualifying pace.

In Malaysia, our car had the performance on Sunday in the race. That is something we must keep up but in addition, even if this sounds like what we said last year, we need to push hard to improve our car’s performance over a single lap in qualifying,” said Massa.

However, he insisted that all signs point to a speedy recovery for Ferrari, and fended off rumors of panic within the Italian organization.

If you are not winning, then of course you are not happy and you try and change the situation but the facts show that our situation is not as bad as some might say,” added Massa.

There is no panic at Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, because we know panic does not achieve anything. Everyone has to work together and push hard to solve these problems we currently have and move in the direction that will see us secure better results as soon as possible.”

The Brazilian confirmed that Ferrari will bring some new parts to China for the 150 Italia, but said that the real update on the 2011 racer will debut 4 weekends from now, in Istanbul.
