Earlier this week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) informed us about a Ferrari California T recall connected to a fire risk and we are now here to inform you the 488 GTB is affected by the same issue.
We are talking about a low-pressure fuel line issue - the fuel line may not connect properly to the fuel pump feed pipe. This can lead to fuel leaking in the engine compartment, which can obviously cause a fire.

Ferrari submitted a report to the NHTSA, blaming one of its suppliers for the issue.

In the case of the California T, which uses a detuned version of the 488 GTB's twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8, Ferrari already notified owners, with the callback campaign having kicked off on December 14.

The affected 488 units had not reached their owners yet

As for the 488 GTB, the Prancing Horse explains none of the cars reached US customers yet. As a result, the automaker issued a stop-sale order for the mid-engined supercar.

While 185 California T units had already been delivered to customers around the country, the number of affected 488 vehicle raises to 119. These were built starting from September 9, 2015 through November 6, 2015.

Ferrari dealers have been tasked with replacing the low-pressure fuel line assembly. Once the operation is completed, dealers will be able to resume normal sales activities. In case you're experiencing a delay with your 488 delivery, this might just be the reason for your extra waiting time.

We can only be glad Maranello has devised a plan to avoid the fire issue that affected the 458 Italia back in the day. Multiple customers had reported fires before a recall was issued, with an adhesive used in the rear wheel arch assembly being the one to blame. Fortunately, there have been no reported cases of fire with any of the two 2016 models affected by the recall.
