Ferrari FXX K Goodwood Shotgun Ride: Day in the Life of a Ferrari Customer Racer

When it comes to the motoring elites, those lucky enough to enjoy the charms of the Ferrari customer racing program represent a truly special group. And we're here to bring you the kind of experience that takes us inside the motoring life of such an aficionado.

The action comes thanks to the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which takes us to the past weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed. Supercar spotter Shmee150 managed to grab a shotgun ride in the FXX K, the track incarnation of the LaFerrari.

The racing hybrid was manhandled by former Formula driver One René Arnoux, whose relationship with the Prancing Horse dates back to 1983.

The footage allows us to get a good taste of what happens when such a gasoline-electric racecar is put through its paces. And, given the narrow profile of the 1.12-mile Hillclimb course, the action is overly intense.

Until a few years ago, Maranello used to be more restrictive, trying to keep the public away from this elite world, but the competition from the McLaren P1 GTR has determined the Italians to change their attitude.

Even so, Ferrari can't be bothered to follow Woking down the cash cow milking path. So while the Prancing Horse only offers the two models mentioned above, McLaren has almost turned designing a halo car into an art. For one thing, the British carmaker's old time Le Mans partner, Lanzante Motorsport, has come up with road-legal conversions of the P1 GTR and we've shown you quite a few examples in key supercar locations across the world.

McLaren itself used this year's FoS to unleash the P1 LM. In its most evolved and final form, the P1 delivers 40 percent more downforce compared to the already extreme P1 GTR. And as a measure of its performance, the P1 LM delivered on its promise to set a new Hillclimb record for street-legal cars.

Returning to the FXX K, number fans will find plenty of figures in the clip below, so we're inviting you to hit the "play" button.
