Ferrari Store has recently unveiled their latest watch designs, the new Fall/Winter 2014 Formula Italia Collection. Inspired by the interior materials and colors of revered 1960’s Ferrari racing cars, the Italians claim the new Scuderia Ferrari Formula Italia limited edition collection captures the simplicity and function of their time-honored craftsmanship.
Sporting a clean, vintage feel, the slightly domed dials with date display are detailed by a printed Racing Shield logo, minute track and Arabic numerals that replicate the font found on the dashboard gauges of the 1961 Ferrari 156 F1. The wrist watches feature solar-textured subdials - 60-minute and 24-hour counters - that resemble the car’s rev and speed gauges. To keep the vintage flavor, its creators decided to position it at 3 and 9 o’clock, typical for chronographs of that era.

The red-orange-yellow detail on the 24-hour counter mirrors the gradient color scale on the Testarossa speed gauge. The new Ferrari limited timepieces are rendered in brushed solid or black ion-plated stainless steel with a custom case-back design. The case has a classic tonneau-shaped silhouette with fluidly extended lugs, while its contours inspired are allegedly inspired by the iconic 156 F1.

According to Ferrari, everything about these watches resemble its vintage racing cars inspirations. Its bombe mineral crystal is dome like the glass covering the car’s gauges and was designed to minimize light reflection for enhanced dial readability. The design of the buckle itself was inspired by hardware found on the leather belts used to secure the engine compartment of the 60’s cars.

Formula Italia dials come in parchment or black with contrasting black, white or sage green printing. The padded straps are made of Italian leather finished in muted tones of black, sage green and chocolate, distressed to lend them a vintage character. Powered by quartz engines, the heritage-inspired new Ferrari watch collection comprises three chronographs and two 3-hand models, designed and made in Italy.

Each of these time-keepers is being issued in an edition limited to 999 pieces and the most expensive model is priced at EUR432 ($548) each.
