Ferrari F40 with Tubi Exhaust Prances Around the Streets of Monaco

Of all the cars you’re very likely to never see in person in your lifetime, the Ferrari F40 has got to be the most famous, and it owes that mostly to the fact that it was once the fastest production car in the world.

It’s also down to the way the car looks, I guess. I mean, if you didn’t have a toy Ferrari F40 while you were growing up, that means you were doing it wrong. Back in the early `90s, the F40 must have been the car featured on the best-selling posters, as every kid wanted to have something to do with it.

And by common standards, it’s not even a pretty car, with its wider than life rear, creased engine cover, and black rear mesh grille with a pair of rounded taillights that seem to be taken off an old truck.

And yet, everything comes to a halt whenever one of these cars shows up, even in a place so used to expensive vehicles like Monaco. This car in particular came with a Tubi exhaust system, an aftermarket contraption that makes the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine sound even better.

Let’s spend a few minutes talking about Tubi, the Italian exhaust manufacturer founded in 1987 that offers 104 different solutions for Ferrari models alone, and a little over half of that for all the other brands it makes compatible pieces for. So you could say that, over all these years, it has specialized in Ferrari models, without fear of exaggerating.

But if we’re to be honest, we couldn’t care less about the car’s exhaust. In fact, midway through the video, you’ll hear the car start up its engine. It’s rather underwhelming, but it fully makes up for that with some nice revs and even a short and timid powerslide.

The F40, though a stable car, weighed 1,100 kg (2,425 lb) and had 485 hp, so it was no stranger to that kind of tricks. In this clip, we also get to see the F40 do something it most certainly hates doing: going in reverse. It’s no Lamborghini, but the visibility still can’t be that great.
