Ferrari F40 Blows Up Its Turbo, Sounds Like a Nightmare

Owning a car like the Ferrari F40 is any petrolhead's dream (some Porschephiles might beg to differ, though) and yet the maintenance part of the job can easily turn into a nightmare. Well, we're here to provide an example of this, with an example of the retired Prancing Horse halo car having recently experienced a technical issue.

The middle section of the F40 is occupied by a 2,936 cc V8, which turns to a pair of turbochargers to deliver 478 horsepower. And the example we're talking about, which was filmed in the UK, seems to have gotten in trouble due to a turbo matter.

For one thing, we can see a group of mechanics surrounding the supercar, with one of them accelerating the vehicle. And it doesn't take long before a loud "bang" is heard from the posterior of the vehicle - it all sounds like something explodes in the face of the Vauxhall Astra VXR behind it.

The move clearly surprises the men - guess nobody expects stuff like a turbo blowing up while working on a car, especially since the one behind the wheel was barely revving the engine. Regardless, somebody is probably in big trouble following the episode we have here.

Of course, with the budgets revolving around owning an F40 being astronomical, a new turbocharger (assuming this is actually required) isn't something that can't be handled.

Why is the Ferrari F40 so important?

As you can imagine, there are plenty of reasons for the popularity of the F40, such as its uber-intense driving experience. But there's more than just that. For instance, when Ferrari returned to building turbocharged machines with the 488, the TT nature of the F40 helped purists get over the move.

P.S.: If all this F40 talk got you into the mood for even more of the iconic supercar, you should know that the second clip below (the video on the right) sees Doud Demuro explaining while the Maranello machine deserves its price tag.
