Ferrari F142 – More Compact, No Diesel

With only a few details regarding the Ferrari F430 replacement, which is actually dubbed F142, speculations concerning the upcoming Ferrari model come out every day. According to Car Magazine Online, F142 will be the first Ferrari “to follow the blueprint set by the 2007 Mille Chili concept”, meaning that the new Italian car will be much lighter than its predecessor and will be more focused on performance and fuel economy.

In fact, fuel-efficiency is one of the most important aspects of the new car, according to Ferrari's officials, but no diesel variant will ever reach mass-production in the F142 series. “We have decided to face the future and our we will need to use all our experience with petrol engines to solve the emissions problem,” Ferrari chief executive Amedeo Felisa was quoted as saying to The Daily Telegraph by Car Magazine Online.

Since a turbocharged engine with small displacement would focus on fuel efficiency but would still provide advanced performance, the new F142 is most likely to be powered by a small displacement turbo V8 engine. Besides that, the total weight of the car will be reduced to approximately 1250 kg, which obviously helps the vehicle provide increased performance and reduced fuel consumption.

“Diesel is not a direction in which we want to go,' he told The Daily Telegraph. 'It is not in our five-year strategic plan and I don't think diesel is the answer to the problem. Reduced displacement is one route we will have to go – definitely turbocharged units with direct injection. Hybrid systems will not be exactly as used in F1's energy recovery, as that's a very different set of demands, but we are looking at it,” the Ferrari official commented on the rumors.
