Ferrari F12 TRS Unveiled, Rumored to Cost $4.2 Million

The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is a majestic car, having the power to reserve itself a place into your heart. Nonetheless, any connection to the Ferraris of the good old days is welcome and this is exactly what a Prancing Horse customer asked for when he ordered what you see here, the F12 TRS.
Before we move on, allow us to avoid any confusions by explaining this is not the Ferrari SP America one-off we recently talked about.

The project was handled by Ferrari’s Special Projects program, which had the task to connect this with the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa. The transformation project came quite a long way, so expect to find much more dream material here than just an open-top F12. The F12 TRS made its debut during last week’s Ferrari Cavalcade driving tour, an annual event that took place in Sicily for 2014.

While the “TRS” part of the designation represents the nod to the Testa Rossa, the design story is more complicated than that. The front apron has a greedier mouth, while a massive carbon-fiber diffuser sits below this. The F12 has kept its headlights, but their non-reflective interior elements are now finished in the car’s hue.

Perhaps in a more important manner, the hood now comes with a transparent panel, allowing the naturally-aspirated V12 engine to show itselft to the world - we’ll get to the power topic in a minute, but let’s stay focused on the design for now.

The wraparound greeenhouse defines the styling of this Ferrari one-off, while the F12’s signature Aero Bridges have been scrapped, leaving a cleaner appearance for the hood.

Moving to the rear of the Ferrari F12 TRS, we find twin protection elements behind the driver and passenger. The vehicle appears to be sporting a Barchetta-like concept and, if this is true, don’t expect a roof to show up anytime soon.

As for the rear fascia, this mixes two main elements. On one hand, we have an hyperbolic incarnation of the Ferrari F12’s uterus theme. Then there’s the serious aero work, with the F12 TRS looking like it’s aiming to compensate for its open top.

Forget Rosso Corsa, the entire package is dressed in an unique triple-layer shade of Red.

Inside the F12 TRS, we find a minimalist approach that places the focus on the driving part. The list of elements that have been removed is impressive, including the glove box, central air vents, floor mats, audio system, window controls, as well as the cup holders. This may be an issue if the one-off ever reaches Cars and Cofee...

The climate control console, one of standard F12 cabin’s weak points (it was shared with Chrysler Group vehicles) is now gone, having been replaced with a set of custom controls.

The rumor mill had placed a KERS-like hybrid system on this car, but the TRS keeps the standard F12’s powertrain, also offering the same performance. Thus, the driver gets to enjoy 729 hp (740 PS) and 508 lb-ft (690 Nm). However, judging by what we can hear in the adjacent video, the F12 TRS is more vocal than the Berlinetta, not a quiet car itself.

Ferrari’s engineers promised the owner he’s lose nothing of the F12’s performance. Thus, expect this to play the 0 to 62 mph game in 3.1 seconds and offer a top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h).

As for the pricing, the Ferrari F12 TRS probably looks at the financial side of the LaFerrari and thinks “that’s cute”. After all, the one-off is rumored to have cost about US$ 4.2 million (EUR 3.09 million), which is around three times more than the price of the LaFerrari.
