The name Scaglietti might sound familiar, but it has a much more profound link than to the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. We are talking about Ferrari design icon Sergio Scaglietti, who has recently passed away at the age of 91 at his home in Modena, Italy.
Scaglietti will reamin in history as one of the great automotive world coachbuilders, having special skills such as the ability to mold his visions into aluminum. This may have a conncetion with Ferrari’s choice of relying on this material rather than on carbon fiber to make its vehicles lighter.
He was a good friend of Enzo Ferrari and his history with the Prancing Horse goes way back to vehicles such as the 250 Monza. He has also collaborated with other carmakers over the years, but the italian company reamained his true love.
“He was one of my father’s best friends,” said Piero Ferrari. “He was next to me with Marco Piccinini also the day my father died and stayed with me the whole night until the funeral. I loved him and he was a very important part of my life. My life will be emptier without Sergio.
