Ferrari Contacted Kubica for Race Seat

BMW leaving the world of Formula One certainly came as a blow to Poland's Robert Kubica, as he was the one driver in the F1 paddock not to have been linked with a major switch for the 2010 season. With no prospects for the upcoming season, the German manufacturer's announcement put him on the market right away, and it seems the other teams did not wait long to making him an offer.

The first team to do that was, of course Ferrari. With Felipe Massa forced to miss the rest of the season due to his horrific accident during the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Scuderia needed a driver just as good to make the F60 cockpit in time. Although they've convinced Michael Schumacher to return to the series and replace Massa, the German's dream was stopped by his doctors.

Before appointing Luca Badoer as their race drivers, it seems the Scuderia briefly contacted Kubica and offered him the drive. It was the very Pole to admit it on Thursday, prior to this weekend's Italian Grand Prix.

Yeah, there was some contact and I was in the interest of Ferrari but I don't think it's so easy to change teams during the year and anyway, I think we will have a competitive car here with BMW, so I'm happy to be where I am,” said Kubica, who also refused to give further details on his searching for a new team for 2010.

Well, I think I'm in white (team wear), so there's no more speculation,” insisted Kubica.

Nick Heidfeld also tried to put an end to his leaving to Williams speculations recently, saying that he'd rather stay at Hinwil if the team managed to safeguard itself in the championship.
