Ferrari Boss to Make Important Announcement on December 16

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo is set to make a big announcement two weeks from now, during a special media meeting at Fiorano. The news was disclosed by one of the journalists who will attend the special press conference, French F1 commentator Jean-Louis Moncet, who wondered in his Auto Plus column what the announcement will be.

What will he tell us?” wondered Moncet. “Maybe he will talk about politics,” he added.

There are indeed several topics Luca di Montezemolo could approach on December 16, including Ferrari's year end results, marque's analysis, potential management changes within the Ferrari organization, extended probably to the F1 team and, of course, his much discussed and hinted entrance into the Italian politics.

In recent weeks, the Italian media suggested the Maranello based team could suffer a major management reshuffle, due to the fact that Ferrari missed out on both the manufacturers' and drivers' titles this season. However, in recent media appearances, both the Ferrari boss and F1 team manager Stefano Domenicali begged to differ, arguing that 2010 has been a positive year, as a whole, for the Italian squad.

As far as politics is concerned, Di Montezemolo has been long awaited to use his high profile in business to make a powerful entrance into the world of politicians, especially after stepping down from his position as chairman of the FIAT Group in July this year. Curiously enough, on December 14, only 2 days before his announced press conference, Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi faces a vote of confidence in the Italian Parliament.

In case the vote doesn't go his way, Italy could witness the end of the Berlusconi government, as suggested by the New York Times. Talking about such a prospect in recent days, Di Montezemolo was quoted by the Daily Telegraph as saying “The one-man show is over.”
