Ferrari Boss Admits Huge Disappointment in 2010

A few days after the 2010 Formula One championship came to an end, Ferrari's president Luca di Montezemolo decided to address the Italian tifosi in an open letter on the team's official website. While admitting the “huge disappointment” of losing the drivers' title in the last race of the season, the Ferrari boss insisted his team will get better for the future.

Until then, however, he pointed to the poor decision-making from the pit wall, which saw Fernando Alonso change his tires early in the Abu Dhabi race, this eventually compromising his entire race. Although avoiding to point any fingers, Di Montezemolo made it very clear where Ferrari should look into during the winter break.

Unfortunately a wrong evaluation from the pit wall during a crucial stage compromised the race, preventing the conquest of the title. The five marvelous victories by Fernando and the team weren’t enough to reach our goal. This is the law of sports,” said Di Montezemolo in the letter.

However, he wanted to express his gratitude for the work put up by the entire Ferrari team throughout the 2010 campaign, revealing that he thanked each and every member of the Scuderia during a meeting in Maranello earlier this week.

I think that all those who have worked so hard during the year – technicians, mechanics, workers and drivers – have to be thanked for their commitment, their dedication and their competence they showed every single one of them. I thanked them personally last Sunday evening at the track and yesterday at the Works.”

Needless to say, his letter to the fans ended with the hope that Ferrari can provide both its drivers with a title winning car next season. However, he underlined one thing: the car needs to be a title contender from race one, not play catch up as it did in 2010.

We will continue to work relentlessly on the 2011 single-seater, because we all, together with you have an objective: taking a winning car onto the track as of the first race,” concluded Di Montezemolo.
