Ferrari and Maserati in India via Tata

Tata Motors is continuously looking to expand its portfolio in growing markets around the world and the recent Indian launch of Land Rover and Jaguar is the perfect example in this matter. The latest news comes directly from Ratan Tata of Tata Motors who hinted that Maserati and Ferrari might arrive in its domestic market in the near future.

Tata currently has a partnership with Fiat which is believed to play a key role in Nano's debut in Latin America. In exchange of the help offered to launch the Nano in this side of the market, Tata would help the Italian manufacturer bring Maserati and Ferrari into India. However, a timeframe for this to happen is yet to be unveiled.

"We have various projects, to take the Nano to Latin America together, to share platforms for new cars, we have projects for (Fiat lorry unit) Iveco and marketing Ferraris and Maseratis," Ratan Tata was quoted as saying by La Stampa.

Back in June, Tata Motors brought both Jaguar and Land Rover in India as the country plays a key role in Tata's plans for the future, as company officials explained.

"This is in keeping with our desire to extend the penetration of the brands in India," Ratan Tata, the company's chairman was quoted as saying by Autonews.

"The luxury car market in India is very small, but there is a huge opportunity there. It is growing fast and we expect it to grow fast over the next 5 to 10 years," David Smith, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) CEO added.

"India is an important part of our plans for the future," Mike Driscoll, managing director of Jaguar told the source.
