Take a good look at the fully covered prototype we have here - this, ladies and gentlemen drivers, is probably a test car for the upcoming 812 Spider.
The tester was spotted outside the Maranello factory and, as is the norm with Prancing Horse prototypes, comes with the kind of cover that can conceal the sexiest of shapes. Even so, the silhouette of the 812 is difficult to disguise.
Taylor Shenuski, the aficionado who caught the prototype on camera and took the whole thing to social media, talks about a prototype with a hard top and another one packing a canvas top. However, this seems to be the same solid setup, only covered with extra camo, so I wouldn't hold my breath for a twin-roof setup like the one offered by the LaFerrari Aperta, for instance.
Rumors surrounding the Spider version of the Ferrari 812 Superfast have been floating around since last fall, when it was stated that the debut of the vehicle would take place by winter 2019.
Of course, there are still plenty of questions to be asked. First and foremost, recent times have seen the Italian automotive producer introducing open-top V12 models as uber-limited models, such as the US-only F60 America, a ten-model run based on the F12 Berlinetta.
Secondly, we can't be sure about the way in which the roof mechanism of the newcomer works until we get to see this in action.
Regardless, the 812 Spider (the nameplate is still tentative) should come with a V12 alone, steering clear of the growing hybridization trend in Maranello.
P.S.: The Instagram post below also showcases what appears to be a test car for the SF90 Stradale (you know, the one mixing a twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors for an output of 1,000 ponies). Given the fact that customer deliveries are set to kick off next Spring, this kind of testing is only normal.
