The North American Ferrari Challenge Season is debuting its 2010 season today at Miami’s Homestead Speedway (races will be held throughout the weekend).
The championship, the longest-running series of its kind in North America, uses race-prepared Ferrari F430s and is open to Ferrari owners, offering them the opportunity to enjoy a complete motorsport experience on U.S. and Canadian tracks.
The first race of the current edition - the 17th U.S. season - will see the world track debut of the anticipated Ferrari 599XX race cars.
The archangelic 599XX uses a divine version of the 599’s V12 engine. The powerplant has received polished internals and a new titanium exhaust system, which allow it to produce 720 Hp and 505 lb-ft of torque. It will be mated to a 599 gearbox that features shortened ratios and a new software. The hyper-racer will tip the scale at 1430 kg (It is 270 kg lighter than the standard 599). All these will enable the 599XX to ditch the first hundred in less than 2.9 seconds and keep on pushing until a gear ratio-limited top speed of 196 mph. Only 29 units of the creation will be sold. Buyers will never actually own the car, they will just be allowed to take part in the project.
“The 599XX programme and FXX programme are the ultimate experience in term of utmost integration between a high end manufacturer as Ferrari and his customer base. Such kind of projects and activities set our brand above the competition for its uniqueness and exclusivity. making F1 technology available to our loyal Ferraristi," said Marco Mattiacci, Ferrari North America CEO.
The Challenge season will go on to the the Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah (April 9-11), Infineon Raceway in California (May 1-2), Montreal (June 11-13), New Jersey Motorsports Park (July 31- Aug 1) and Watkins Glen, NY (Sept 3-5).
