Ferrari 599 Hybrid Photos Leak

Rumors flood the automotive websites faster than we can think about them. And this happens all the time, offering us sneak previews of more or less interesting upcoming cars. However, some rumors are special: back in 2007, the Internet started buzzing about a hybrid Ferrari coming to planet Earth. The company was said to produce such a model in order to meet low average( throughout its’s range of vehicles) emission regulations. Of course, many other bits of more or less official info surfaced into the media and the story reached its climax in January this year, when Luca de Montezemolo, Ferrari’s Chairman, officially announced the arrival of a hybrid 599 to the Geneva Auto Show. Now, the new media brings the car to our attention once again, through a leaked set of pictures taken during a presentation of the car. According to carscoop, the Hybrid 599 will feature an electric motor that is going to add 100 HP and 110 lb-ft (137 Nm) to the car’s output. The unit will be mounted at the rear of the car, being attached to the transmission and will drawn its energy from a battery housed under the vehicle’s floor. The whole electric package is expected to bring the Hybrid 599’s weight up by 100 kg. So simple maths tells us that the car’s power-to-weight ration will be improved through this “green” addition. As we previously reported, the hybrid Ferrari is also expected to feature a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) . Our opinion: As, we’ve written in “Ferrari 599 Hybrid - The Fallen Angel Jumpstarting Ego Eco Carpocalypse”, selling your powertrain to the Devil is not worth it, because this is not Hollywood, where a pact with the dark side is always cool…this is the real world where the Hybrid 599, faster or not than its combustionist brother, represents a sacrilege with severe consequences for the supercar world. autoevolution will be attending the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
