Ferrari 488 Spider 1/18 Scale Model Comes with the Appropriate Color

Good things come in small packages; that's what we always say. Of course, there's nothing wrong with a king-sized supercar to impress your neighbors either, but we can't afford a new Ferrari or even an old one. So the next best thing is a scale model of your favorite Maranello Marvel.

The Ferrari 488 Spider has just made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which ended this Saturday. It's a happy time for Ferrari, as the two-seater convertible has probably evolved into the best car in the segment.

Not surprisingly, scale model specialists MR Collection were very quick to launch their 1:18 version of the 488 Spider. It only took them a few weeks to create the model, which is kind of unprecedented.

However, they already had a 488 GTB coupe since June, so taking the roof off probably wasn't that difficult.

Have you ever stopped to think about what scale really means? For example, if you take a cube and recreate it in 1:18 scale, all its sides will be 18 times smaller. The surfaces will be 18x18=324 times smaller while the overall volume would be 5,832 times smaller. The same number applies to weight if the density of the material used is the same.

Despite its small size, the 488 Spider model made by MR Collection is very accurate. We like the way in which they've executed the interior, engine bay and especially the alloy wheels. They've even perfectly matched the Blu Corsa color that Ferrari presented in Frankfurt.

Unfortunately, there's no shrunken down version of the twin-turbo V8 for you to rev all the way to 8,000rpm.

The price is unknown at the moment, but most MR Collection toys cost as much as an Xbox games console, around $300. In return, you get a skillfully recreated display piece measuring about 25 centimeters (10 inches) that can be admired for hours.
