Ferrari 488 GTB Launched with a Bang in Newport Beach

Ferrari Newport Beach is one of the biggest exotic importers in the world, together with its Lamborghini and McLaren counterparts. So it's not surprising that it's this place that witness the launch of the 488 GTB supercar on American soil.

A party organized last week welcomed the successor of the 458 Italia with open arms. After all, Ferrari invested quite a lot into the development of this twin-turbo supercar.

Very little is shared with the older car, while the 100 horsepower increase was achieved despite the use of a smaller engine. However, there's no shame in owning one of the older models, most of which were gathered for the show.

As much as we like seeing the 458 Speciale, our eyes were drawn to another kind of model, the type that can wear red dresses.

But let's get back to the new supercar and say that the 488 GTB features a 3.9-liter engine delivering 670 PS at 8,000rpm and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque. It weighs just 1,470 kilograms and can reach 100 km/h in 3 seconds. Knowing its customers are now just as interested in drag racing, Ferrari gave the car a top speed of 330 km/h while somehow magically lowering fuel consumption.

A lot of time was spent in the wind tunnel, developing the "blown" rear spoiler, double front spoiler, rear active aerodynamics and base bleed intake. Downforce at 155 mph (250 km/h) is up by 50% compared to the old car.

But at the end of the day, all that matters is that it's red, a Ferrari and extremely powerful. Let's see who's going to be the first celebrity to get his!
