Ferrari 488 GTB Beats McLaren 675LT on Hockenheimring in Flying Sport Auto Tests

Earlier today, we showed you the Ferrari 488 delivering a 7:21,63 Nurburgring lap time in a Sport Auto test. However, as promised, we returned to the matter, since the said test also includes the twin-turbo Fezza's Hockenheimring performance.

The 458's successor managed to lap the short version of Hockenheim in 1:07. And since we're talking about real-world tests performed by the German publication, whose hot laps can be considered reference points in terms of real-world performance assessment, we can compare the said time with the McLaren 675 Longtail's Hockenheim time.

Sport Auto released the 675LT's test a few months ago, with the Woking machine going round the short version of the said circuit in 1:07.2. So yes, despite the Macca and the Prancing Horse not being tested back-to-back, we can say the 488 GTB is a blink of an eye quicker.

At first, it might seem incredible for the "standard" version of Ferrari's V8 supercar to beat the track-destined V8 supercar coming from the British automaker.

However, we have to keep in mind that the 675LT was actually designed as a weapon for defeating the Ferrari 458 Speciale, so the British beast has achieved its so-called target.

In fact, is there's anything that deserves a raised eyebrow, that's the time of the newer 570S. Despite this being McLaren's "entry-level" model, as is belongs to the Sport Series slotted below the 650S, the 570S managed to lap Hockenheim short in 1:08.8.

The 570S can also beat the Lamborghini Huracan in a drag race, in spite of the Raging Bull's AWD start, while it can also raise serious questions about the 675LT's twice-the-money status in a comparison test involving the two Macs.

And, to end this story on a Ferrari matter, we'll remind you the Maranello engineers are currently working on both the "Speciale" (it won't be called that) incarnation of the 488 and the successor for the Ferrari F12berlinetta. Until those projects are completed, you can check out the 488 GTB's Hockenheim lap at the end of the first clip below, while the 675LT's adventure comes in the second half of the video at the bottom of the page.
